Apparently I live in the ghetto where ATM fraud is rampant.
I live in NDG, have been there for the past five years and in those five years my bank card and all my accounts have been frozen three times by my bank because the area designated a "high fraud" area. As a means to combat the fraud the bank randomly chooses bank cards and freezes them until the owners call in and report that there is something wrong with their account access. Now, if you're like me and don't really ever think of such things then you will most likely be screwed because you rely on your bank card and no longer carry cash with you. So guess what? Last night I went to pay with my card for some groceries and BAM, my card was declined and of course it was past four in the afternoon so I couldn't go to the bank and get a new card. Banks suck. More specifically, the Bank of Montreal business hours suck.
Be warned, if you do your banking anywhere near Sherbrooke in NDG then you will befall the same fate that I have! I used to live on Madison and I often banked at the BMO on Benny and then I got screwed. Then I moved to Hampton and frequented the RBC there and got screwed.
I mean, I understand the concept and all but it's happened one too many times, you know what I mean? Maybe instead of freezing my cards they should implement, oh, I don't know some sort of security measures in order to combat the fraud? Both banks have no security, anyone can walk right in off the street. Why don't they put those card reading thingies at the front door?

OMG you live in NDG too? We have our own little "click" created between you, me and N@. lol
As for the bank card issue, it happened to me last year right before Christmas. My account stayed frozen for about 3 weeks. Lucky I had other accounts to draw funds from (cause the kids would have hated Santa if he brfought nothing)... however the bank was nice enough to ask if I wanted them to lend me some money. When the heck does that happen? When the heck is the bank ever nice?
In ay case, they did refund me the $2000.00 that was STOLEN from my account. Since then I have added a freeze on my own account. I told them not to allow to deposit and withdraw right away. So now I do my banking on-line and just transfer between accounts when I need the CA$H. Has been working wonderfully.
You see, I know the whole process is good but I've never had anything stolen from my accounts. BMO does this to be proactive against fraud, which is a good thing and all but I always get screwed. Juste un petit peu.
