Career Counselling vs. a free meal at Vargas

It seems as though the free food Gods have once again smiled down on me as I have been invited to a going-away lunch for a work colleague.

I love free stuff.

And yet, I find myself conflicted because the lunch falls on the same day and time as my meeting with a Concordia “career counselor”.

So here’s my dilemma, I need to find my professional bliss but I also still love free stuff. Especially when it’s free steak or sushi.

I could reschedule but it will be the second time doing so and I don’t want them to think I am too flaky (even if I am but they don’t need to know that, they’ve only just met for God’s sake! I tend try and keep it dormant until a couple of years into a friendship and then BAM! it’s too late for them to get out. Mwahahaha, indeed).

Uh, where was I? Oh right, um, the lunch versus my future dilemma. If I pick the lunch then I have a fun time out and get free food, which counts for a lot since I got my own apartment – however, if I don’t go and decide to stick to my appointment at Concordia then I might be preoccupied with the fact that I missed out on a free meal. So, then my subconscious will be thinking about the steak I missed out on and it might manifest itself in my test results. What if it turns out because of my bovine preoccupation my tests indicate that I should be a “cattle rancher” or “butcher”?

Hmm. It’s a tough decision but thankfully I have a couple of days to think about it as Concordia is closed until the 21st and even if I wanted to reschedule I couldn’t because everyone is on vacation.

I would say it is self-evident. Just take the free lunch and reschedule the meeting. You can say that it is the going away lunch for someone at work (which is not a lie) and just don't mention the free food motivation.

Then again, I think there is something inherently dodgy about a restaurant that tries to serve both steak and sushi. (They should really just concentrate on one).

KEEP YOUR APPOINTMENT!!!!!
Then buy yourself a nice little present for yourself for $20 or less.

Hmmm, James you make a valid point - can a place that specializes in steak also make good sushi? It sounds fishy to me.
