Novel Writing - Not as easy as it sounds

As most of you know, I have been away from blogging this month in order to participate in NaNoWriMo and while I can't say I have been stricken by writer's block I can say that I have come down with a bad case of bad writer's fever. I don't know what it is, I start off each chapter in a organised manner and then as I go on I seem to go off on strange tangents. Oh God how I ramble. I also seem to be in a time machine because I start off in the present and then venture over to the past and find myself at the end somewhere off in the future. It's really something I have to get a hold of because when I reread my finished chapters I often have no idea what is going on in the story and that's never a good sign because, you know, I was the one who wrote it.

So I guess as the third week comes and goes I have come to a few interesting conclusions about myself and my writing:

  1. I like the phrases "cut of your gib" and "mosey on over" and will try to fit them into sentences as often as I can even though my protagonist isn't a 70 year old man.
  2. I need to get my hands on a writer's manual. You know, something that reminds me of simple grammatical rules.
  3. My journey through space and time is really only workable if I understand the basic principles of both.
  4. Kiwi should not be a major character.
  5. I think I may have ADD because I seem to have a short attention span when writing... Hey look, a bagel! I like the poppie-seed kind.
