Vermont Day-Tripping

Sigh. Well, I am back from my long vacation and let me tell you, it was fun! Neffo Steffo and I went to my parents house and relaxed on the front porch while drinking margaritas on Friday afternoon. The trip down was long due to our numerous stops but it never felt tedious as we were on our own timetable. We also stopped for cheese at Fritz Kaiser's Fromagerie, which has some award winning cheeses for a good price since you don't have to pay for all the price markups that stores tack on.
Saturday was a good day and it seemed that the Gods were smiling down on us in everything we decided to do. We set off from Noyan and crossed the small customs near the house and were only waiting for 10 to 15 minutes and seemed to beat the crowd as a lineup suddenly appeared behind us while we waited and then thanks to Steffo's sassy top the customs officer flirted and then let us through lickety-split. We then drove through Alburg, Swanton and finally to our destination, St. Albans where Steffo wanted to check out the Greyhound Rescue. At first we didn't know if there would be anyone there to let us in but when we arrived we were surprised to find out it was their annual reunion. Nice. We met all sorts of greyhounds and Steffo got to meet a few to see if they were her style or not. Needless to say, by the end of our visit she had three dogs already picked out to bring home with her! I am sure she'll find the perfect one for her when she goes back after her allergy treatments.
We bid out farewells to the the pooches and decided to go to Burlington to have lunch by the water. We then found a market right by the aquarium that looked out over Lake Champlain and the mountains in the distance and proceeded to enjoy our crabcake sandwiches on the deck. I think it was then that I decided that Burlington would be a lovely place to live as it's kind of artsy and bohemian.
After lunch we then began our journey back and Steffo came up with the idea that we should take the ferry over to NY but not the one out of Burlington, the one out of Colchester since it is a shorter ride. It was a good call because it's pretty much only a twenty-minute ride, enough time to enjoy the scenery and take a few pictures but short enough so that boredom didn't set in. From the ferry we drove to the new Price Chopper in Champlain, NY and got our groceries. God, I love shopping in the States, they have so much stuff there that we can't get here. And cheaper. So much cheaper. I found the ice cream I love there, it's called Moose Tracks and it's premium vanilla ice cream with chunks of chocolate fudge and, get this, individual mini peanut butter cups! So good. And at two for 5.00$. TWO FOR 5$!
Honestly, Montreal never has deals like that.
We finally made it home at six and relaxed with some Bloody Ceasars while we prepared dinner.
It's a tough life but somebody's got to live it, right?

Thanks to Steffo for a memorable and extremely fun weekend!

*One of these years I will post the pics from the ferry.

It was fun. I'm hoping we can do it again some time.

And don't get me started on the poutine thing ...
